A Truly Heartfelt Thank You
Sometimes it takes something truly frightening to remind us just how blessed and fortunate we are. Even in the hardest moments, we try not to lose sight of that. Support comes in many forms, and every bit of it matters.
Emotional Support
The outpouring of love for both of us has been overwhelming in the best possible way. Tami has received cards, flowers, and gifts from so many friends and groups that she feels deeply supported and cared for.
Among the many cards was a wonderfully clever one from the California State Square Dance Convention. For context, I had originally been one of the programmed callers, but because Tami needed help after surgery, I stayed home. Not only did the group graciously forgive my absence (and, honestly, they got an upgrade—incredibly talented callers stepped in), but someone created an amazingly professional card—19 inches tall and 12 inches wide—designed in the theme of the event. Many of our friends filled the card with heartfelt messages. It was extraordinary.
Practical Support
On the practical side, several people have provided incredible resources—information about how cancer and other conditions develop, and guidance on lifestyle changes that can help the body support its own healing. This included included an Amazon treasure trove of reference materials aimed at convincing, educating, and guiding us to a healthier path; complete with a very soft and snuggly bear. I genuinely believe this knowledge will enrich and extend both of our lives. As we continue down this path of lifestyle changes, that journey may become its own blog.
We also owe huge thanks to Tami’s boss, Tim Neller, for providing mobility assistance devices. Because of the location of her primary tumor, walking any distance is still uncomfortable, and Tim had both a wheelchair and a collection of walkers available. The wheelchair has now been affectionately dubbed Tami’s Chariot.
And then there’s the generosity that leaves us speechless. Both the San Diego Square Dance Association and the California Council of Square Dancers insisted on providing payment for events I was unable to fulfill. They made it clear that declining was not an option. Their unexped kindness and generosity, and the spirit behind it, has humbled us beyond words.
