April 11 and 12, 2026 - A Weekend of Strength and Progress

Without many tangible ways to support Tami right now, I tend to slip into being a bit of a hover‑husband—which understandably drives her a little crazy. As she regains strength, she’s been looking for moments where she can have space without my constant, well‑intentioned hovering. To give her that breathing room—and to give myself a chance to “go play” a bit—I’ve resumed calling for my four weekly local square dance clubs. I’m still skipping full weekend festivals so I’m not away for an entire weekend. And, amazingly, she has even gone back into the office for a couple of hours on days when she feels strong enough.

Tami’s core is healing well from the surgery, and her legs are getting a bit stronger. This weekend brought two big milestones. First, she was strong enough to take an unassisted shower, standing the whole time. I bought a shower chair just in case, but she didn’t end up needing it. Second, I was able to leave her on her own for an entire evening while I traveled out of town to call a dance—and she made it through with flying colors. That growing independence is lifting her spirits and giving both of us a bit more freedom.

Speaking of lifting spirits, we cannot thank our amazing families, friends, and the entire square dance community enough for holding us up as we navigate all of this. The outpouring of love and support is deeply humbling.
