From Tami's Celebration of Life - Tami's Last Words

Note from Andy

When she knew that the end was approaching, Tami started planning things she wanted to happen at her celebration of life. For example, she had a list of songs or artists she wanted to be played. Thank you to Tami's brother, Bryant, for taking that and running with that. She also had a menu, which, unfortunately, due to the heat and inability to keep the food safe for the length of the ceremony, did no happen. 

Perhaps the most important desire was that she wantd her final words shared. She died before "editing" this, but there is true beauty in what she conveys. So, instead of "cleaning it up," I provided it as is to Sally Bennett-Schmidt, who read it with amazing accuracy and poise.  I could hear Tami's voice very clearly in the delivery....  Thank you, Sally! 


My Words (by Tami Allemao) 

For the last 7 years, everyone has heard that I am so very very happy to watch my sister, Teri, be a grandmother!!!
Both brothers, Woody and Bryant, are each grandfathers. So exciting to see them enjoy this next generation.
I was pleased nephew Hunter told his mom (Teri) that her 1st grandchild would be the 1st girl after 7 grandsons of his generation. He did this as a secret. So, when Emily revealed she was having a girl, I ugly cried. Teri laughed, which is okay.

The best thing to happen to me is to have met Andy and to  marry him. He made me a better person.
I have seen that my parents and siblings, gave me a strong foundation and then Andy built on it. Indeed, I was blessed.
I have seen my aunts and uncles lead by example to be good people and I hope that I and Andy have done the same for our nephews and nieces.

Square dancing

It has given me and Andy so many friends and  experiences.  We have traveled to places we wouldn't have thought of visiting and enjoyed every site. Some people invited us to spend some extra time and really visit.  Thank you Pam and Jim Kidwell!
 
Oh, yes,  we enjoy the dancing and music part of square dance.  Pat Carnathan taught us well and then he encouraged Andy's idea of learning to call. John Marus had a callers school and our lives were changed forever.
I have always been so proud of his calling and everyone knows it.

My life has been filled with a lot of laughter and a lot of love.

Oncologist Appointment (4/6/2026) Tami and I met with the Oncologist today. He confirmed what we knew, and shared a few additional details. The bottom line is Tami has Stage 4 colon cancer, and the spread is too extensive for anything other than chemo. As the doctor said, " You can't radiate the whole body ."  He shared median survival rates with and without treatment, but emphasized that each patient is different. So, I will avoid putting an expiration date on my wife, and instead say we will fight, until there is no fight left.  Backstory In October of 2025, Tami began feeling uncomfortable sitting for a long time. She complained of tailbone, and general (severe) mid-section pain. By December and January, it had become so uncomfortable that we went to urgent care, and they identified hemmorhoids and provided PT exercises for Tami to work on. July 26, 2026 - The Journey's End

This will be a very short post. An epilogue will follow with more details, insights, and gratitude after I have had some tme to process.   This post is simply to notify. Tonight, at 9:33 PM, after a heroic fight, a day with her siblings by her bedside and me crawling into her cramped hospital bed to hold her one final time, Tami shuffled off her mortal coil and went to meet our heavenly father.   As much as I am exhausted and devastated, I am grateful that she was resting peacefully when she passed. Her pain and suffering are over.  Thank you all so much for caring enough to follow this Journey. The love and support has meant more than I can possibly express in words.  More to come...

April 7, 2026 - Two Appointments - Both Positive

Post Hospital Stay Appointment with Primary Care Today was a good day. Met with Primary Care, which is standard procedure following a hospital stay. In this visit we were able to establish a recurring presciption for Tami's pain management, which is truly a God send. Tami has been in so much pain for so long, that being able to finally manage that has been a major boost to Tami's ability to cope with all that is going on right now. So, knowing that the pain management is guaranteed for a while is a huge win! Removal of the Surgical Staples The 23 staples from Tami's Surgery were removed. The incision appears to be healing really well. So, no additional dressing or action required on our part. Tami is now free to take a shower. The Bath wipes work reasonably well, but nothing beats a nice shower!
